Once overgrown and the site of significant illegal dumping, the park’s pilot phase, completed in 2018, has become a positive neighborhood space for leisure, events, and play. Upcoming improvements build upon its initial success and address the desires and needs of the community discovered during surveying, observation, and interviews during the pilot phase. Additionally, Philadelphia Water will be adding a rain garden to manage stormwater runoff from the Market-Frankford Line elevated structure. The pilot phase was made possible through partnerships with the Philadelphia City Planning Commission, the Community Design Collaborative, and the Pennsylvania Horticultural Society; and funding from ArtPlace America and PECO Green Region. Phase 2 is made possible through funding and support from Councilwoman Maria Quinones-Sanchez; the Pennsylvania Department of Community and Economic Development’s Greenways, Trails, and Recreation Program and thePhiladelphia Department of Commerce.
